Fire In The Disco, Fire In The Taco Bell
Hello!
Back with a bang after a few weeks away from the old Pod. I loved the headspace, but I must confess, I did miss it a bit.
So? What News??
I picked up where I’d left off several weeks before with Melbourne based Zoe From Earth, and Canadian Singer/Songwriter Donovan Woods who was touring Australia for the first time. Both cracking chats, and both very easy people to talk to, which was good to ease back into it.
I’ve had a fair amount of interest and requests to come onto the Pod lately and so I’ve kicked off a second radio show. The Mixtape A Side goes out in the normal spot of 6-8pm on a Tuesday and now The Mixtape B Side also goes out in my old Setlist spot at 8 til 10 on a Saturday night. This allows me to put out two new podcasts every single week, and If for any reason there’s only one, for Saturday’s show, I’ll pull one up from the archives for you!
So stoked to snag an interview with Dick Valentine from Electric Six! I was really excited by that. If you follow me on the socials, then you’ll already know it was a super early start at 5am Perth time. I did my best to bring the energy and not sound like I’d just woken up. Dick was a funny guy to talk to, and I got 4 really good quality Promo clips from our 20 mins together, which is always a good sign, often I struggle to get even 20 secs!
Also last week, I chatted to Perth band Lazy Haze about their new single Old Town, that I’ve been smashing heaps on the radio show, if you like The Strokes, you’ll love these guys.
Anything good coming up in the next few weeks Geeza? I hear you cry.
Well as it happens, yes, since you ask. I can’t say too much, just yet as it hasn’t actually happened yet and I hate to tease you with stuff that’s not 100% happening, but I was super stoked today to be offered an interview slot with a Scottish Indie band that I absolutely LOVE! Who were once described as “Old sad bastard music” by Jack Black, answers on a post card……..
I'll also be re-launching the Mailing list, because I haven't got enough to do. There's a sign-up box on the front page of the website, knock yourself out if you feel like it. I find it quite hard to read the metrics on Mail chimp, roughly 30% of people open the emails, which is depressing, if anyone has any tips for me, throw them my way, I'm open to any and all forms of Clickbait......
I’ve mentioned before in these here pages about the cost of putting out the podcast, which as I’ve also mentioned here, is an absolute, joy, and total labour of love, it does however cost me about $200 a month in Website hosting, Canva, Mixcloud, Mailchimp and Descript subscriptions, and I haven’t even started on the social media advertising yet. So, I’ve decided to go earlier than planned with my Patreon. I’ll be launching it in about a month, around mid-July (tax refund time in Aus, when everyone is flush)
I’ll be launching it with just one tier initially, and it will cost you $3 a month, that’s less than 2 quid if you are reading in the mother land. That’s it, 3 bucks, why wouldn’t you?
I’m still developing the Patreon content, but so far, for just $3 a month you’ll get:
- A 20-track personalised Mixtape (Spotify playlist) curated by yours truly, you’ll give me your top 3 all time artists when you sign up, and I’ll take it from there. (there will not be any tracks from those 3 artists on your Mixtape)
- Every guest I interview, I’ll add a track 7 to The Mixtape Choices, and track 7 will be a track that person will choose especially for you my Patreons, they will all be lovingly compiled onto a Spotify Playlist. This will be Patreon only content and will not be a part of the Podcast itself.
- 10% off Podcast Merch for the length of your subscription. Currently that’s only T-Shirts ($35)
- Early access to all episodes.
- Out-takes. On The Patreon, I’ll be sharing all the little bits and pieces that I have to cut out, like the time Bruce Foxton kept answering his phone to give his agent a bollocking, the times I talk about stuff that I probably shouldn't talk about like revealing the song I lost my virginity to! Or when I invite people out for a beer who have had lifesaving liver transplants due to alcohol abuse. Or the time I got the album title wrong of the person I was interviewing, an album that I own on vinyl I might add, all that sort of malarky.
- Random playlists that I make up for occasions like St Paddy’s Day and Christmas and I’ll be giving you lucky people a listen to my famous, ever evolving Monday afternoon Shower Playlist……
- Occasional Behind the scenes video diary
- Anything else I can think of between now and the time I launch.
That’s not bad for $3 a month is it now? Even if I only get 10 people sign up, that’s my Descript paid for every month, so it’ll help me out a lot!
See you next month with the actual Patreon Launch!
